Ornos
A real village around a sheltered beach, with supermarkets, tavernas and the water-taxi pier. Frequent buses to Fabrika make it the easiest beach base for families.
اختر المنطقة قبل الفندق: مقارنة بين سبع مناطق من حيث المشي والشواطئ والضجيج والسعر.
First visit and you want to walk to dinner: Chora or its edges (Megali Ammos, Tagoo). Beach holiday with children: Ornos or Platis Gialos. Party: Paraga or Paradise. Quiet and better value: Ano Mera or the east coast, with a car. Expect mid-range rooms at about €120–280 a night, hostels at €40–80, more in August (Visit Mykonos estimates, Oct 2026).
| Area | Best for | Getting around | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Chora (old town) | Walking to sights, dinner and bars | On foot; buses from Fabrika and the Old Port | Night noise, luggage up stepped lanes, small rooms |
| Edge of Chora — Megali Ammos, Tagoo | Views and pools, 10 minutes' walk from town | Walk or short taxi | Steep walks back up the hill |
| Tourlos & Agios Stefanos | Ferry days, calm family beach | Bus from the Old Port; Sea Bus to town | Port traffic, cruise-ship views |
| Ornos & Agios Ioannis | Families, sheltered beaches, sunsets | Frequent bus from Fabrika; water taxis | Busy bay in August |
| Platis Gialos & Psarou | Beach hotels, upscale dining | Bus from Fabrika; water taxis | Highest beach prices |
| Paraga & Paradise | Parties, beach clubs, budget beds | Bus from Fabrika; water taxis | Music late into the night |
| Ano Mera & the east | Quiet, value, villas, Kalo Livadi and Elia | Bus from the Old Port; a car helps | Far from Chora's nightlife |
Stay in Chora and the island's sights, restaurants and bars are all on foot, both bus stations are a few minutes away, and you can come back for a siesta between beach and dinner. Rooms are in old houses: charming, often small, sometimes up steps.
Cars cannot enter the old town. Your taxi will drop you at the nearest road and you will walk the last stretch with your luggage — pack a bag you can carry.
A real village around a sheltered beach, with supermarkets, tavernas and the water-taxi pier. Frequent buses to Fabrika make it the easiest beach base for families.
A long sandy beach lined with hotels, and Psarou's polished cove next door. Great beaches, high prices, quiet nights.
The party coast — and also where the island's cheapest beds are, in hostels and simple rooms by the beach.
Ano Mera is the island's second village, in the middle of the island and about 15 minutes by car from Chora. It is quieter and cheaper, close to the east-coast beaches of Kalo Livadi, Elia and Kalafatis, and its square has some of the most honest tavernas on the island.
The east and north coasts are villa country: hillside houses with pools and sea views, where privacy is the point. You will want a car — or a villa that includes transfers.
Villas and luxury hotelsFor July and August, book by spring. The best-value rooms go first, and late-season prices rarely fall.
Ask how far the nearest road is, whether there are steps, and whether the hotel offers a luggage transfer.
Many hotels collect guests from the airport or New Port — useful, because taxis are scarce in high season.
Holiday rentals in Greece must display a registration number (AMA) on their listing. If an online listing has none, or asks you to pay outside the platform, book elsewhere.
Stone houses with pools — often better value than a Chora boutique if you have a car.
Kalo Livadi and Elia put the sand outside your door — quieter than Chora at night.
For a first visit, Chora: everything is walkable and both bus stations are close. Families do best in Ornos or Platis Gialos, party-goers at Paraga or Paradise, and travellers who want quiet and value in Ano Mera or on the east coast, ideally with a car.
Our 2026 bands are about €40–80 a night for a hostel bed or simple room and €120–280 for a mid-range double, with August prices higher and five-star hotels and villas far above that. June and September cost noticeably less for the same room (Visit Mykonos estimates, Oct 2026).
Stay in Chora if you want to walk to dinner and nightlife and use buses for the beaches. Stay on the beach — Ornos or Platis Gialos — if you will spend most days on the sand, especially with children. Both are linked by frequent buses in summer.
