Mykonos has been one of the Mediterranean's best-known gay destinations for decades, and the openness that drew the first visitors still defines Chora on a summer night. Greece legalised same-sex civil marriage in February 2024, and Mykonos is among the most relaxed places in the country to travel as an LGBTQ+ visitor.
That is a reputation, not a guarantee: attitudes in rural Greece can be more conservative, and individual venues differ. Use common sense, as anywhere — and expect a warm welcome in Chora, the south-coast party beaches and most hotels.

Long known as the island's gay beach, with JackieO' Beach — the beach outpost of the Old Port bar — bringing drag shows and cocktails by day.
JackieO' Beach
A long sandy beach whose far end has long been popular with gay visitors; quieter and more relaxed than Super Paradise.

The calm cove next to Super Paradise, reachable by water taxi — a good pause between parties.
Quiet coveThe scene follows the summer: lively from June, peaking in late August with XLSIOR, the island's big LGBTQ+ festival week of parties across Mykonos (usually in the last week of August — check xlsiorfestival.com for the 2027 dates). June and September are lively but calmer, and most bars close from November to April.

Most hotels on Mykonos are used to same-sex couples. If you want certainty, ask before booking — a good hotel will answer plainly.
Watch your drink, keep valuables close in crowded bars and check every bill. Book taxis home in advance — they are scarce after midnight.
Do not ride ATVs or scooters after drinking; the narrow roads cause many of the island's accidents.
Call 112 in an emergency or the Tourist Police on 1571. You can also report hate incidents to the Hellenic Police.
Stay in or near Chora to walk home from Jackie O', Lola and the lanes — ask for a room away from the busiest bars if you want sleep. For beach days, the south coast between Platis Gialos and Elia is linked to Super Paradise by water taxi in season. During XLSIOR week, book rooms and transfers months ahead. See where to stay.
