Nakon mraka
Mykonos made its fortune from the sea twice. First from shipping: the captains' houses of Little Venice still lean out over the water, and the windmills of Kato Mili, built under Venetian rule in the 16th century, ground flour for ships' rusks. Then, from the 1950s, from visitors who came for Delos and stayed for the light, the beaches and a famous tolerance.
Today the island has about 10,700 permanent residents (2021 census), and its airport handled 1.58 million passengers in 2025. In winter Chora is a fishing town again. From June to September it is one of the most cosmopolitan places in the Mediterranean.
The postcard view, free and open at all hours. Go 40 minutes before sunset, then drop 150 m to Little Venice for a drink.

Three full days covers Chora, two different beaches and a morning on Delos. Five days lets you add Ano Mera, the north coast and a day trip to Tinos, with a spare day in case the meltemi cancels a boat. One day is enough only for a cruise stop.
The airport (JMK) is 3.5 km from town. The KTEL bus runs from Arrivals to the Fabrika bus station in about 10 minutes for around €2. Taxis wait outside Arrivals but queues are long in summer, so many visitors pre-book a transfer. See our airport transfer guide.
June and September. Average highs are 26 °C in both months, the sea is warm, beach clubs and boats are running, and prices sit below the July–August peak. May and October are quieter and cheaper but some venues are closed (climate data: National Observatory of Athens via meteo.gr).
Yes — it is one of the most expensive Greek islands. Plan on €80–140 per person a day on a budget and €180–320 mid-range, excluding flights. Rooms, beach-club sunbeds and taxis drive the cost. Bus tickets (~€2), souvlaki and public beaches keep a day affordable.
Yes. Boats leave the Old Port of Chora several times a day in season and take about 30 minutes. The site ticket is €20 (reduced €10) and is bought separately at the entrance; summer hours are 08:00–19:30 with last entry at 19:00 (Ephorate of Antiquities of Cyclades, 2026).
Not if you stay in Chora or on the south coast: buses run from Fabrika and the Old Port to the main beaches, and water taxis link the southern bays. Rent a car or ATV for the north coast and remote coves, and expect narrow roads and scarce parking near Chora.
No. Families fill Ornos and Agios Ioannis, couples come for sunsets and fine dining, and history lovers come for Delos. The party is concentrated at Paradise, Super Paradise and a few lanes in Chora — easy to join, easy to avoid.
